Unveiled at the September 2012 Geneva Motor Show, the third generation of the ever popular Audi A3 went on sale in September 2012. The Range-Topping performance variant "S3" followed the following year and was offered as a 3dr hatch, 5dr "Sportback", Convertible or this, the handsome four door saloon.
As with the previous generation, the S3 is still powered by the four-cylinder turbocharged engine mated to the intelligent "Quattro" four wheel drive system but performance has been boosted from 265bhp to 306bhp. Available with either a 6-Speed Manual or a 6-Speed Dual Clutch "S-Tronic" Automatic Gearbox, the S-Tronic is so advanced it is actually faster than the manual as it changes gear faster than a human can. With the S-Tronic transmission, the car is able to sprint to 60mph in just 4.6 Seconds and on to an electronically limited top speed of 155mph.
The S3 has come a long way in terms of performance. Nowadays, this 2017MY is almost supercar performance. The engine is very throaty and, even as standard produces 295ib/ft of torque, giving a real sensation of speed under acceleration. The four wheel drive system ensures that the power delivery is very linear under all driving conditions with fantastic traction in both straight line speed and cornering.
Not only does the S3 perform fantastically, it looks absolutely superb. From the outside, the car has very sharp lines to give a very sporty look with a tailgate mounted spoiler and quad exhausts to give the rear of the car a very aggressive look. The S3 also benefits from side skirts and polished 19" Alloy Wheels which look absolutely superb, along with distinguishable "S3" badges around the car.
